Ubuntu II Festival: A Resounding Success!

The Ubuntu II Sports Festival of Conservation was nothing short of spectacular! Held at the beautiful Nkumba University grounds, the event brought together primary schools, secondary schools, various sports teams and coaches, sports enthusiasts, conservation advocates, families, and community members for a fun, learning, and cultural celebration weekend. The festival celebrated the spirit of sports and highlighted the importance of conservation, making it an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Highlights of the Festival

Sports for Conservation

The festival organized by SportsUganda Ltd UK and Sembeza Africa kicked off on Friday with a #clean-up drive of the towns surrounding Nkumba University our hosting partners and continued throughout the weekend with varying conservation activities led by our conservation Partners; Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, Lukango Tree Conservancy in cohort with Avian Conservation Uganda Society. The weekend was filled with a series of Conservation and sports events that got everyone moving and having fun. From basketball and football to rugby and skipping, participants of all ages had the opportunity to engage in various sports activities. It was heartwarming to see children and adults alike enjoying the games, cheering each other on, and fostering a sense of community. The sports activities served as a powerful reminder of how sports can bring people together and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.

Live Band and BBQ

As the sun set on Saturday and Sunday evenings, the festival grounds transformed into a lively celebration with a live band and BBQ. Attendees enjoyed delicious BBQ while dancing to the vibrant tunes of the live band. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, music, and the aroma of mouth-watering food. It was a perfect way to wind down after a day of sports and activities, providing a wonderful opportunity for everyone to relax and connect.

Fireside Discussions

One of the unique aspects of the Ubuntu II Festival was the fireside discussions held on the first day. These discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the past, present, and future of sports in Uganda and East Africa, the role of sports in conservation, and the impact of community initiatives. The discussions were insightful and engaging, offering attendees the chance to learn, share ideas, and envision a better future for sports and conservation.

Cultural Performance by the Entebbe Cultural Troupe

The festival reached its climax with a breathtaking cultural performance by the Entebbe Cultural Troupe on Sunday evening.
